At first I started to do what I usually do when I don't have a certain vision for a photograph, which is to go black & white, then bump up the contrast to make it sharp. So I did this and was not pleased. The only thing that did please me was the challenge in finding a successful way to edit this photo that would.
I begin to think about my options... Full color, hmmmm- it was beautiful in full color but then it just looked like your average macro shot. Sepia was another option but did not do the photo justice. Then I decided to color accent the leaf and I was impressed! Usually when this is done to a photo, nine times out of ten it looks cheesy to me. But I enjoyed it so I kept it. I wasn't finished yet. I Still wanted to find a way to make that solitary green leaf pop. I added a dark vignette but it didn't fit. I also love the dark vignette and over use it wayyy to much! So I tried the cloudy vignette and to my surprise it was just what I was looking for!
To those not into photography- you probably yawned through this entire post... my apologies! To those who are- i posted this in the hopes that it will encourage you to play around with your photos, try something you usually shy away from, and have fun with the editing process :)
